The Pawdcast
Last Saturday’s 38-23 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats was a harsh dose of reality and at the same time featured some not too discouraging performances from younger players asked to take much larger roles.
With 1 more game in the books on the 2019 season, I decided an update was in order on who is still redshirt eligible as we look to this team’s roster makeup beyond the current season.
I am experimenting with a more reader-friendly format for delivering this information as well and any feedback (positive or otherwise) is greatly appreciated.
The Cougar Offense:

Announced Redshirt: WR Keith Corbin (Sr.), OG/C Braylon Jones (Sr.), QB D’Eriq King (Sr.)
Redshirt Eligible: RB Terrell Brown (Fr.), RB Mulbah Car (Sr.), QB Logan Holgorsen (Fr.), Clayton Tune (Soph.), WR Bryce Washington (Jr.), OG/OT Dixie Wooten III (Soph.)
Not Redshirt Eligible: OG/OT Dennis Bardwell (Jr.), OG Max Banes (RS-Fr.), TE Bo Alexander (Sr.), OL Jordan Boatman (Soph.), WR Tre’von Bradley (Soph.), RB Patrick Carr (Sr.), TE Shane Creamer (Soph.), TE Parker Eichenberger (Soph.), OG/C Jack Freeman (RS-Fr.), OT Josh Jones (Sr.), WR Courtney Lark (Sr.), WR Terry Mark (Sr.), WR Cole McGowan (Jr.), WR Ja’Kori Morgan (RS-Fr.), OG Keenan Murphy (Jr.), OG Gio Pancotti (Jr.), RB Kyle Porter (Jr.), K Kyle Ramsey (Fr.), P Dane Roy (Sr.), WR Jeremy Singleton (Soph.), WR Bryson Smith (Soph.), RB Chandler Smith (Jr.), WR Marquez Stevenson (Jr.), TE Christian Trahan (Soph.), RB Kelan Walker (RS-Fr.), LS Nick Wildberger (Sr.), OT Jarrid Williams (Sr.), K Dalton Witherspoon (Jr.)
As expected, Dennis Bardwell started against Cincy on Saturday and thus is no longer eligible to use his redshirt year during the 2019 season.
With Patrick Carr possibly dinged up in the 2nd half against Cincy, we saw true freshman RB Terrell Brown make his debut and Mulbah Car remain on the bench. It hasn’t been made official yet, but it is almost certain Car will join King, Corbin and Jones in having this be their redshirt year.
Otherwise there wasn’t much movement in terms of who is or isn’t still redshirt eligible. While both Clayton Tune and Logan Holgorsen are still under the games played limit for a potential redshirt, it would be basically impossible for this team to play 6 more games and keep both Tune and Holgorsen from appearing in more than 4 games.
The Cougar Defense:

Announced Redshirt: NONE
Redshirt Eligible: DT Atlias Bell (Jr.), LB Terrance Edgeston (Jr.), LB Elijah Gooden (Jr.), LB Zamar Kirven (Soph.), DE Taures Payne (Jr.), CB Ka’Darian Smith (Sr.), S Gleson Sprewell (Jr.)
Not Redshirt Eligible: S Deontay Anderson (Jr.), DE/LB David Anenih (Jr.), LB Jordan Carmouche (Jr.), DE Isaiah Chambers (Jr.), NG Olivier Charles-Pierre (Jr.), DE Alexander Duke (Soph.), DT Aymiel Fleming (Sr.), S Darius Gilbert (Sr.), DE Leroy Godfrey (Sr.), DE Logan Hall (Soph.), DE Noah Jones (Soph.), CB Shaun Lewis (Soph.), LB Jordan Milburn (Sr.), S Jordan Moore (RS-Fr.), LB Donavan Mutin (Soph.), DT Jamykal Neal (Soph.), S Gervarrius Owens (Soph.), DE Derek Parrish (Soph.), CB DJ Small (Jr.), S/NB Grant Stuard (Jr.), DE Payton Turner (Jr.), S Garrison Vaughn (RS-Fr.), CB Damarion Williams (Jr.), LB/S Amaud Willis-Dalton (Soph.), NG Blake Young (Sr.)
While nobody has been officially ruled out of the rest of the 2019 season, there are still a few bigger names on the defense that are redshirt eligible.
The 2 biggest ones for me are Terrance Edgeston and Gleson Sprewell, who have missed the last 3 and 2 games respectively. Taures Payne didn’t play nearly as much as Edgeston and Sprewell at the beginning of the season, but he was a coveted Juco recruit.
I am not as sure about what long term roles Ka’Darian Smith or Elijah Gooden will play, but they’re both still redshirt eligible.
Technically, Zamar Kirven is redshirt eligible but like Dennis Bardwell last weekend I expect we’ll see Kirven start against UConn and pass the 4-game threshold.
